Some water, some whiskey, some cigarettes, some dope. I think I'm comin round, can you help me up to cope...
1:09 p.m. | 2002-12-12 I want to put in my vote for the best album of the 00's, so far. I am gonna have to say Gomez' "In Our Gun" takes top honours in my book. Go buy it today and support quality, creativity and brilliance in the arts. Plus, they have the best live show I have ever seen. "Gomez are a unique band--they have three distinctive vocalists in Ben Ottewell, Ian Ball, and Tom Gray, and an ever-fizzling chemistry where every member is made to count. The resulting emotional and musical palette is vast, encompassing epic grandeur and lucid intimacy, tenderness and anger. A quick check of their armory reveals Beefheart-ian blues, a beautifully cantankerous horn section, mariachi melodies, euphoric harmony vocals, blasting hip-hop beats, slide guitar that sounds like it's come up the Mersey via the Mississippi--and that's just for starters." --Gavin Martin. Recommended downloads from this album (*=my faves): "Shot Shot" "Rex Kramer"* "Detroit Swing 66" "In Our Gun"****** "Even Song" "Ruff Stuff"* "Sound Of Sounds"* "Army Dub" "Miles End" "Ping One Down"* "1000 Times" "Drench"******* "Ballad Of Nice and Easy" Admittedly, that is the entire album, but it is too hard to pick, "so throw you hands in the air, tip your brim to the side as only if you're a playuh and all you ladies in the muthuhfuckuh actin up, don't hurt nobody when you back that up, cuz we came here to have a good time, me and my nigguhs in the sunshine" -Snoop (obviously talking about Gomez). |
